The Sort-of Healthy Fruit and Gourmet Gift Basket
Monday, August 11th, 2008It’s not often that you find an appealing food gift that doesn’t make you want to run to the gym and hit the ellipticals, but this Large Fruit and Gourmet Basket pulls it off. For $110, your gift recipient gets at least 24 pieces extra fancy fruit (what is extra fancy fruit, anyway?), Custom House coffees, Sarments Dumedoc chocolates, Lady Walton cookies, cheese, crackers, Droste chocolates, 1 pound of Trophy giant mix deluxe nuts, Peerless candies, a Simpkins candy tin, Wagners teas, Lindt chocolate truffles, and Toggenburger chocolate-covered wafer cookies.
Okay, so maybe I lied just a little. If you eat all of that at once, you will want to do some exercise afterwards. On the other hand, the inclusion of fruit, tea, and nuts makes it a much healthier option than a lot of traditional gift baskets (though perhaps a little less healthy than the average fruit basket). I think it’s a nice compromise, and a lovely gift.

Gluten Free Banana Cake Bread Mix
Sunday, June 22nd, 2008I used to associate gluten-free diets with the kind of people who wear long skirts and handcrafted jewelry, but I’m starting to change my mind. Looking over the numerous websites that cater to gluten-free dieters, it looks like they actually have some pretty appealing options these days. Granted, they still can’t buy a whole lot at the grocery store, but who knows - maybe stuff like this Banana Cake Bread Mix makes up for it.

Low Fat Bread Bowl Soup & Stew Sampler
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008When you’re buying a get well gift, there are times when the typical assortment of flowers and balloons just don’t seem appropriate (all of the time, in my opinion). Really, what does a person DO with a vase of flowers? Most of us would be better served with something like this Low Fat Soup Sampler.
Home Bistro carries a number of these bread bowl and soup sets, but this basic set sounds perfect for a sick friend:
- 2 Chicken & Rice Soups with Bread Bowls
- 2 Savory Vegetable Stews with Bread Bowls
- 2 Bison Chilis with Beans in aBread Bowl
- 2 Fire Roasted Tomato Soups with Bread Bowls
Instead of sending flowers that will have to be tossed out, you can send these simple meals that your sick friend can simply heat up and enjoy. Now THAT is a caring gift. Because they’re also low-fat, they won’t have to OD on diet pills to get back on track later, either.
Champagne & Fruit Basket
Sunday, February 24th, 2008I never really saw myself as the fruit basket type, but the long, cold winter is making me think again. It’s been over 6 months since we saw truly hot weather here in the midwest, and the fruit selection at the grocery store leaves much to be desired. This Fruit and Champagne Gift Basket is starting to look really, really good.
Don’t get me wrong, though. I still dream of Willy Wonka-style candy stores where Delta faucets dispense chocolate, not water.

Dark Chocolate Organic Fruit & Nut Energy Bars
Saturday, February 16th, 2008Although Clif Bars are actually pretty good for you, they taste even better. In flavors like “Dark Chocolate Mocha”, “Dark Chocolate Raspberry”, and “Dark Chocolate Walnut”, they have plenty of tasty varieties to choose from. With 160 calories and 24% of your recommended daily fiber intake, they’re not a bad choice for people who are active.
Each box of 9 will run you around $12, so you’ll have plenty of money left over for something like an LCD TV.

Back to Nature Fruit Basket
Thursday, August 9th, 2007The fruit basket is such a classic that a lot of people overlook it when they’re considering a gift. While it’s probably not the best gift for your chocoholic aunt, this Back to Nature fruit gift basket is a wonderful gift for any health-conscious loved one.
Unlike a lot of baskets that make promises about specific fruits, this one uses whatever is freshest at the time. Package prices range from $49-69.
