Cinco De Mayo Pińata Filled With Candy

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Sure, not everyone celebrates Cinco de Mayo, but those who don’t are about as much fun as a life insurance quote.  If you haven’t started planning for your party yet, check out this Bull Pinata With Candy.   Although I usually prefer to fill my own, this makes it particularly easy for the procrastinators of the world.  Now all you need is a bag of tortilla chips and some margaritas and you’re good to go.

Pears, an Underrated Fruit

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Why is it that so many great artists have painted pears, but almost no one seems to care one way or another about them.  Oh sure, they’re okay in a fruit cocktail with plenty of sugar-y syrup - but how often do you see a person snacking on a raw pear?

This Premium Pear Medley might make you think twice about passing up a juicy pear.  For just under $40, you can get a beautiful (and healthy) gift in a signature watercolor gift box.  You’ll want to put TSA locks on these pears.

The Dom Perignon Champagne Gift Basket

Monday, March 24th, 2008

I don’t think I like anyone enough to send them this “A Toast to Dom Perignon” gift basket, but perhaps you do.   It would certainly make a good impression.  For a mere $220, you get a 750ml bottle of Dom Perignon, 2 very festive champagne flutes, and 6 chocolate truffles.   I think I’ve been on cruises that cost less than this set.

The only thing I don’t get is the truffles.  Why just 6?  Why not a good-sized box of them?  You’re already spending $220, why not just add another $20 to the cost and include more chocolate?

Smoked Salmon Spread Gift Set

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

This Smoked Salmon Spread is sure to please everyone from a classy business associate to someone from the gold teeth and billet grilles crowd.  At a mere $29, it comes with smoked salmon pate, a smoke salmon fillet, crackers, and a rowboat-shaped photo frame.

If you’re looking to upgrade the gift, just add a nice Riesling wine.  The acidity and slight sweetness will go very well with the salmon.

Apple Berry Crisp Cake

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Although it’s easy to find simple baked goods like apple pie or brownies, it’s a little tougher to find something a little less ordinary like this Apple Berry Crisp Cake from Macy’s.  The cake has a mixture of apples, blueberries, and cranberries packed into a shortbread crust and covered in a streusel crumb crust.  As if that weren’t enough, the top of the cake is drizzled in creamy caramel.

I wouldn’t exactly call it healthy, but it sounds delicious.  If your individual health insurance adjuster saw you eating this cake, I’m sure he’d be cringing.  Unless you offered him a piece, of course.

New Year’s Donations

Monday, January 7th, 2008

I’m not a big fan of resolutions that involve giving up food. That’s just insanity (unless it’s a necessity for health reasons, of course). On the other hand, I think it’s great if you can get rid of some extra items and help others out while you’re at it. There are plenty of great programs that allow for car donation, clothing donation, and even boat donation.

CarAngel Ministries is a non-profit organization accepts vehicle donations and uses the proceeds to make positive videos for kids and teens. To date, they’ve given away 2.4 million videos and they hope to give away more. They’ll accept your used car, boat, RV, or house, giving you an IRS deduction and warm fuzzy feeling.

The Gift of Fine Caviar

Sunday, November 25th, 2007 Food and Candy Gifts

While not everyone can afford to enjoy caviar regularly, it’s something that everyone should try at least once in a lifetime. That’s why Caviar can be a great gift for almost anyone.

If you’re unfamiliar with caviar, there are a couple of really simple ways to serve it. You can serve it with small pieces of toast or sliced french bread, along with chopped scallions (green onions) and sour cream. You could also try it with cream cheese and bagels for a brunch event. Add a bit of extravagance to any event or gift by offering caviar. A single 1 ounce jar will cost $76.99 and it will give you enough for 8-10 half teaspoon appetizer servings.

Starbucks Coffee Gift Set

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

I’m not much of a Starbucks fan, but the fact that they’re on pretty much every other street corner in the city of Chicago would seem to indicate that someone out there is. If you happen to know that person, this Starbuck Gift Box is a great gift idea.

At $49.95, it includes 4 popular coffees - Sulawesi, Sumatra, Komodo Dragon Blend, and Caffee Verona.
